Joel is a co-author for a scientific journal through Environmental Science & Technology of the American Chemical Society publications. While at Virginia Tech, Joel led research with elite members from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, the Institute of Critical Technology and Applied Science, and the Center for the Environmental Implications of Nanotechnology. Joel returned to Virginia Tech to finish his bachelor’ s degree in Biochemistry, with double majors in Chemistry and Interdisciplinary Engineering. While there, he was honored with the high decoration of a Bronze Star, among other awards. When Pittsburg Testing Industries merged with PSI (now Benchmark), Randy became the man in charge of the engineered wood products division, managing the development and certification of wood-based materials. Randy’s first industry role was at the University of Oregon as a lab technician with Pittsburg Testing Laboratories, advancing quickly to field technician, and then project manager, overseeing inspection services for the construction of shopping centers, hospitals, and industrial projects. ![]() He then transferred to the University of Oregon. Randy studied business management at Oregon State University, where he gained valuable experience as a lab technician, and then as a field technician. He considers the mountains another of his greatest passions – and calls them his second home. BENCHMARK INTERNATIONAL FULLIn the unlikely event he finds himself with personal time, you can find Travis roaming the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest, usually with a fly rod in hand or bow strapped to his back, and with the full support and encouragement of his amazing wife Naomi, daughter Addison Joy, and son Reed Thomas. Travis serves on the board of Directors for the International Wood Products Association (IWPA) was named a Distinguished Alumni by the OSU College of Forestry and lectures each spring at Oregon State University. Experience:Īside from the obvious proximity to the industry as a youngster, Travis started as a staff engineer at PSI (soon-to-be rebranded as Benchmark International following Travis’ purchase of the Engineered Wood Products Division of the company), who immediately sent him on a flight to China for his first month-long trip.
